VIPS Memory and Aging Clinic
We are excited to announce the establishment of the Vancouver Island Psychological Services (VIPS) Memory and Aging Clinic. VIPS has provided psychological services to clients of all ages for many years, but the establishment of this new clinic, based at our View Royal location, means that we are now able to provide specialized neuropsychological assessment and treatment services to those aged 60 and older who are experiencing changes in memory or other aspects of cognitive functioning.
Neuropsychological Assessments that are conducted through the VIPS Memory and Aging Clinic are individualized and tailored to the specific needs of each client we work with. Generally, assessments consist of an interview with one of the clinic neuropsychologists that is followed by specialized neuropsychological testing to evaluate the client’s memory and/or other aspects of cognitive functioning, as appropriate. Once the assessment is completed, the neuropsychologist will analyze the results, complete a written report, and schedule a feedback meeting with the client to discuss the assessment findings and recommendations.
Treatments available through the VIPS Memory and Aging Clinic include psychological support services for people experiencing cognitive changes and/or their families, and cognitive rehabilitation, a speciality treatment that is designed to help people minimize the impact of cognitive changes on their daily lives.
Please note that the Memory and Aging Clinic services are provided by psychologists, and that psychological services are not covered by the Medical Services Plan. Assessment fees vary based on individual needs but, generally, are based on the hourly rate that is recommended by the BC Psychological Association ($225 / hour). Many extended health plans provide some coverage for psychological services.
