Dr. Lauren Matheson

Dr. Lauren Matheson provides psychotherapy and assessment using a collaborative, client-centered, and trauma-informed approach. She strives to create a safe and nonjudgmental environment where clients from all cultural and religious backgrounds, gender and sexual identities, and lived experiences can feel welcome and heard. Lauren welcomes LGBTQ+ and neurodivergent clients.

In psychotherapy, Lauren works primarily from an Emotion-Focused approach and integrates other evidence-based therapies, including Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Prolonged Exposure and Cognitive Processing Therapy for PTSD, and Exposure and Response Prevention for OCD. She has experience supporting clients with anxiety, depression, eating disorders, substance use concerns, borderline personality disorder, and OCD, as well as those seeking help with work and life stress, perfectionism, emotion regulation difficulties, relationship concerns, life transitions, identity exploration, and strengths-based support for neurodivergent clients. Lauren has extensive experience working with those who have experienced trauma, including childhood trauma, complex trauma, sexual assault, and work-related traumas including those experienced by first responders.

Lauren provides assessment including psychoeducational assessments and ADHD assessments for both children and adults. Lauren also conducts assessments for adults seeking a deeper understanding of themselves, with diagnostic clarification when indicated. Lauren offers specialized assessment of Occupational Stress Injury for first responders.

Lauren completed her pre-doctoral residency with Newfoundland and Labrador Health Services in St John’s, Newfoundland. Lauren recently completed her doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from the University of Victoria. Lauren is currently completing the requirements for registration with the College of Health and Care Professionals of British Columbia (CHCPBC). During this process, she provides psychological services under the supervision of a Registered Psychologist at VIPS.
